Live Your Best Life

I delivered a seminar called How To Live Your Best Life at a local library recently.  What a great interactive discussion we had about this inspiring topic!   We talked about passion, particpating in activities that bring us joy, and having appreciation for what we already have.  One particpant shared that while she had been in a job that was not a great fit, the relationships she developed there have become long lasting and deep.  She regreted that she did not realize or appreciate this for how important it was until she left that environment.  She said if she had known it then, it would have made her time there more positive.

We talked about how some, when they think of taking action toward living their best life, feel as though they are “stepping off a cliff into the unknown”.  Does that first step have to be off a cliff?  One particpant said “no, it could be stepping off a curb!”

What did you do today to live your best life?

Paintings Sold!

Many of you know that I paint, but recently I had my first sales of several watercolors I painted!  The buyer is a friend who recently opened an ayurvedic bodywork center in Raleigh.  She had been seeking arts to adorn her new space and saw my “leaf” paintings when visiting my home.  When she first called and asked if she could purchase some of my work, I was speechless for a moment.  No one had ever approached me with that question before since I had never intended to sell my art.  When I said yes and hung up the phone, I got excited – and in a matter of days painted 10 paintings for her to choose from.  It was such a joy to be painting with renewed gusto.  Having a request for them, and knowing they would be displayed for others to see – and not just when they come for dinner – was great inspiration.  It was also absolutely out of my comfort zone!

Image Enhancement

What a fun experience I had on Friday!  I had a personal shopping experience with Michele Little of One Chic Mamma, an image consultant and one of my fellow board members with Chix in Business.

Before we met, Michele gave me some great questions that really got me thinking about my style and goals for what image I want to be presenting to the world.  Some were hard to answer at first, but they really got me thinking (something I love) and helped me clarify what I wanted.  I got to choose the store and we met there.  While shopping, my focus of course was on stepping out of my comfort zone, so I asked Michele to help me look for skirts and dresses, something I do not own now.  Though I didn’t find any to purchase, she helped me understand what styles, lengths and shapes suit me best so now I know what to look for.  We also focused on accessories, something I’m not always sure about.  She explained how to wear them, what colors to choose for them and some other creative ideas to alter pieces I may happen to find that are not perfect, but have promise.  This was music to my ears since many of you know I am a thrift store junkie and also love being creative.  Now I am on a quest to find at least one skirt and dress that I can wear with confidence – and I will also be looking at items I find in thrift stores with more of a creative eye to the possibilities I can add to them.

I’m so glad I had this experience of focusing on myself, it was something I had thought about for a while, and finally stepping into it.

How about you?  What experience would you love to have to help yourself grow?
