Beautiful California

I just returned from a short trip to California to visit friends who recently moved back there.   Believe it or not this was my first time to southern California!  I love looking at landscapes, especially the different vegetation found in new places I visit.  My favorite were the cypress trees, so magestic against the blue sky – and the sage growning wild!   Along the drive to the coast of San Diego I enjoyed looking at the mountains and though the weather was overcast and misty, the ocean was breathtaking!

I am so happy my friends found their way back to the place they truly feel is there home.  As for me, though California was beautiful, I am happy to be living in the place I truly feel is home, North Carolina!

Here are some of my best photos from my trip…

New Traditions

This past weekend Paul and I had such fun at our friend Kat’s house partaking in her new tradition of a gingerbread house party!  We were greeted with tasty drinks and shown to the floor where a large cloth filled with “materials” was there waiting for us.  We had graham crakers, chocolate morsels, marshmallows, gummy bears and lots and lots of frosting to build our creations.   And create we did!  Everyone grabbed their spot and got to work building their structures.  There was everything from an igloo to a couch/TV and houses of all shapes and sizes in between.  How much fun it was to try something different and at the same time become part of a new tradition.  Thanks Kat!

Discovery

“The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.”  Marcel Proust

I love this quote.  Because I am such a visual person, quotes that bring up vivid powerful pictures really hit home for me.  This one brings up so much.  On one hand I imagine myself on a boat in a wide open sea.  The sun shining brilliantly accross the water, my hair blowing in the breeze and a huge smile of exicted anticipation on my face as I approach new places from an open vantage point – with clear eyes wanting to see it all.  On the other hand I also see myself opening my eyes in familiar places, yet seeing them with much greater color and emotion.  Seeing things for the first time that had been in front of me all the while.  Again I have the same feeling of excitement, this time from childlike wonder.  Each image fills me with such delight, that my whole being is sparked.

What are some of your favorite quotes that evoke an incredible spark in you?
